Biography
Sipho Simela is the founder and CEO of Matrix Rental Solutions, a housing technology company selected for NAR's Second Century Ventures REACH program — the strategic growth accelerator backed by the National Association of Realtors' wholly owned venture capital arm. Matrix Rental Solutions builds AI-powered tools that connect public housing authorities, landlords, and voucher holders to streamline rental access, reduce government waste, and expand housing choice across the affordable housing ecosystem.
Sipho spent over a decade in capital markets at Bloomberg, State Street, and Deutsche Börse before joining two high-growth startups, where he led strategy and stakeholder engagement across complex regulatory environments. That background shapes his approach to housing technology: building systems that cut bureaucratic inefficiency while maintaining the accountability and civil rights protections that housing programs require.
Matrix currently operates across 11 states, serving public housing authorities, landlords of all sizes, and the 2.3 million households navigating the Housing Choice Voucher program. The platform addresses the full rental lifecycle — from universal applications and income verification to recertification and fraud detection — using AI to support caseworkers and property managers rather than replacing their judgment.
Sipho advocates for AI policy that protects consumers without stifling innovation, reduces administrative burden on small landlords and local housing agencies, and empowers the private market to solve the nation's housing supply and affordability challenges alongside government. He believes technology should expand opportunity for working families while respecting property rights and individual choice.
