The tour will kick off exploring the sustainable side of food and beverage. You will have the opportunity to peek inside the kitchen, learn about the tools and menus specifically chosen by the convention center chefs to cater to their sustainability initiatives, explore their induction cooking techniques, and learn about the convention center’s composting systems. You’ll see first-hand the recycling and waste minimization program, discover the energy efficient ways the convention center is heated and cooled, and even stop by the engineering command center.

Washington Convention Center was the first convention center in the United States to implement BIOPROTECT™ by SurfaceGuard, a NASA developed technology designed to kill COVID-19, and was the first convention center in the Northeast Corridor to achieve GBAC STAR™ certification, which was recently recertified for 2022.
